Voting rights emphasized at Black History Month event

The days of civil rights activists being killed for attempting to register black voters may be in the past, but there are still ways in which minorities are being disenfranchised, Chris Moore reminded those attending Friday’s Mon Valley NAACP Black History program.
Moore, the Emmy-award winning host of “The Chris Moore Show” on KDKA TV and radio, was the keynote speaker for Friday’s dinner, speaking on the topic “Your Vote Counts.”
“Your vote counts — maybe yes, maybe no, but maybe,” Moore said.
Moore said disenfranchisement is done in more sophisticated ways these days, sometimes appearing in the form of voter roll purges to eliminate convicted felons — and those with similar names who need to prove their right to vote.
