A chant of “May-be next year!” from the Ringgold student section rung out across the Peters Township high school gym as victory came into view.
The ninth-seeded Rams put an end to No. 8 Ambridge’s season with a 73-62 victory in a WPIAL Class 4A first round matchup Wednesday at North Hills.
With the win, Ringgold (15-9) earns a meeting with top-seeded Highlands in the quarterfinals Saturday.
“Awesome win,” beamed Ringgold head coach Phil Pergola. “In all my years of coaching, that’s going to rank right up there in the top ten.”
Fun game to watch?
“Maybe for you,” said Pergola.
Junior Demetrius Butler picked the right night to announce himself among the Rams’ elite. Butler scored a game-high 24 points, going a remarkable 15 for 16 from the free throw line.
