Ringgold to offer early retirement incentives

Ringgold School Board voted Wednesday to offer early retirement incentives for the district’s professional and non-professional employees.
The district’s non-professional employees — secretaries, administrative assistants, maintenance workers and custodians — who have worked at least 10 years at Ringgold qualify for the incentive.
Those who choose to take part in the program can decide whether they want a one-time payment of $5,000 or individual health insurance coverage for one year beginning the month after the employee’s retirement.
Both options are contingent upon the district receiving an irrevocable letter of retirement by April 30 with an effective retirement date no later than June 30.
Professional employees are offered an Early Retirement Incentive Plan that includes five annual payments of $5,000 into a qualified health retirement account.
This is something the district has offered in the past, Superintendent Megan Marie Van Fossan said, but the measure must be renewed when there is a potential for employees to take advantage of it.
