Serra, Winchester Thurston set to meet again

Top-seeded Serra Catholic ends its 12-day layoff tonight when it faces a familiar foe in ninth-seeded Winchester Thurston in the WPIAL class 2A quarterfinals at Penn-Trafford High School.
Tip-off is scheduled for 6:30 p.m.
Winchester Thurston (15-8) defeated Chartiers-Houston, 30-24, in the first round Friday, setting up the third meeting between the two Section 2 opponents. Serra Catholic (16-3) earned a first-round bye after winning the section championship.
Winchester Thurston, the section’s third place team, gave the Eagles their only section loss of the season on Dec. 12, a 43-39 victory for the Bears. Serra Catholic made a statement with a massive 72-45 win in their second matchup of the season on Jan. 18.
