Roberto Clemente is a legend — not just in Pittsburgh, but around the world — and students at Ringgold Elementary School North got a closer look at his greatness Monday.
To celebrate Read Across America Day, the school invited former physical education teacher and football coach Joe Ravasio to share a book about Clemente with the students.
Clemente joined the Pittsburgh Pirates in 1955 and put together a hall of fame career that included 15 All-Star appearances and two World Series titles.
Off the field, he built a reputation as a humanitarian and died at age 38 in a plane crash while delivering aid to earthquake victims in Nicaragua.
When Ravasio was finished, Clemente’s son Luis joined the students by Skype — a video chat application — from Puerto Rico.
