Early in Tuesday’s playoff opener, Thomas Jefferson struggled to finish in its offensive zone.
The Jaguars held a 14-2 shot advantage after one period and only held a 1-0 lead.
That didn’t worry TJ head coach Bill Crousey, though.
“I think the opportunities were there in the first,” Crousey said. “We just kept doing the same thing and got a little better at doing them, that’s when they started to go in.”
Thomas Jefferson continued its assault in the second period and was rewarded for its persistence, scoring four goals to gain separation in a 5-0 victory over the Cougars in the quarterfinals of the PIHL Class A Penguins Cup playoffs at the Ice Castle Arena.
“We just took whatever they gave us,” Crousey said. “We try to get the kids to understand that whatever is in front of you, you take advantage of that and you use it.
“We took advantage of them collapsing down low and kept feeding the points. They couldn’t get it and we were bound to get a rebound or a lucky bounce.”
