Charleroi brothers are wanted for allegedly burglarizing a Carroll Township residence while the homeowner was attending his wife’s funeral.
Jason Sean Evans, 30, was charged by Carroll Township police with two counts of receiving stolen property and one count each of burglary, theft by unlawful taking, criminal trespass breaking into a structure and criminal conspiracy to commit burglary after an alleged incident Feb. 18, police said.
Charles Raymond Evans, 34, was charged with two counts of receiving stolen property and one count of conspiracy to commit burglary stemming from the same alleged incident.
Warrants were issued for both men Wednesday after the charges were filed at Magisterial District Judge Mark Wilson’s office in Monongahela.
The charges are a result of a continuing investigation of the alleged incident conducted by Carroll Township police Officer Michael Fendya.
According to a criminal complaint filed by Fendya, police were called to a residence on Hillcrest Drive, where a homeowner claimed his house had been broken into while he was attending his late wife’s funeral in California, Pa.
The criminal complaint states the suspects entered the house by prying open a sliding glass door.
Once inside the house, police say the burglars ransacked the top-floor bedrooms and took multiple pieces of jewelry, sterling silverware, various commemorative coins and other personal items belonging to the homeowner.
According to the police complaint, an investigation found the suspects left muddy footprints in and around the outside of the house made by Nike Air Jordan sneakers, which left a noticeable tread pattern.
The police complaint also says on the same night as the burglary, a nearby resident photographed a suspicious vehicle parked near his home.
Nearby trail cameras also captured two men carrying a bag containing bulky items.
Police say one of the males in the photographs was wearing Nike Air Jordan sneakers.
Police traced the suspicious vehicle to Debra S. Evans, and police say they were aware two of her sons had a history of theft-related crimes, with Jason Sean Evans currently on parole for similar state charges.
Debra S. Evans is not charged with a crime.
According to the police complaint, officers obtained a search warrant and performed a search of Evans’ residence on McKean Avenue in Charleroi.
While searching the house, police found a large amount of stolen pieces of jewelry in Ziplock bags, a photo driver’s license of a recently deceased Monessen female, a laptop with its screen displaying instructions on how to break into a locked safe and numerous credit and debit cards belonging to people not residing at the McKean Avenue residence.
Police also say they found a pair of Nike Air Jordans inside Jason Sean Evans’ bedroom with matching treadmarks as those in photographs from the Feb. 18 burglary.
According to the police criminal complaint, jewelry that was stolen from a Jan. 24 burglary on Craven Drive in Carroll Township was also discovered during the search.
Police say an investigation of that incident is ongoing.
