Three Mon Valley communities have received a boost to help them fight crime in their neighborhoods.
On Thursday, the Mon Valley Alliance Foundation announced a series of grants had been awarded to local municipalities to help combat crime and the opioid epidemic in the Mid-Mon Valley region.
A total of $7,500 was given to California, Donora and North Charleroi boroughs.
Each community received $2,500 from the FirstEnergy Foundation, which was applied for on behalf of the communities by the Mon Valley Alliance Foundation.
The money can be used for the installation, maintenance, repair and operation of security cameras that are connected to the local police stations.
For North Charleroi, that means the money will benefit the Charleroi Regional Police Department.
