New bill targets elected officials who don’t show up for work

Two Pennsylvania senators are striking back against elected officials who become negligent of their duties while in office.
State senators Pat Stefano, R-Bullskin Township, and Scott Martin, R-Lancaster County, announced plans this week to introduce Senate Bill 1068, which would amend the Pennsylvania Constitution to allow the General Assembly to create a process for municipalities to remove elected municipal officials for being derelict in their duties.
The measure would mean the removal wouldn’t need to wait for the next election to vote the officials out of office, or direct action by the Senate and the governor, a process both senators said is “difficult, time-consuming and rarely used.”
