New Eagle resident Emmett Bolin, 4, has two new friends at the Monongahela police station after meeting officers Chase Taylor and Bill Fusco Monday.
The new friendship began when Emmett’s mother, Lyndsay, wanted Emmett, who is diagnosed with Level 3 autism, to meet community workers such as police, firemen, doctors and teachers as part of his “Helpers in the Community” therapy.
Lyndsay hopes meeting these types of workers will ease Emmett’s fears of interacting with an officer in uniform.
The officers gave Emmett a tour of the police station, let him sit in their police cruiser and showed him how the cruiser’s lights operate.
“One of my biggest fears is of him being afraid of police officers,” Lyndsay said. “He’s not going to go to them if he’s intimidated by them.”
