North Belle Vernon council members and Mayor Craig Ambrose discussed trash billing issues and their concerns with the services of Mon Valley Refuse Authority at Tuesday’s meeting.
The discussion came as Ambrose asked council if it was aware the owners of a building on Broad Avenue — for which he did not give an address but identified it as located diagonally across the street from Ferguson Funeral Home — have only been paying one trash bill, although there are five occupied apartments and four occupied store fronts in the building.
“We’ve been losing money there for years,” Ambrose said. “Anybody know where we are on that?”
No one on council had an answer.
“So, every month that we go by, we’re losing,” Ambrose said.
“If you come through that alley, it’s a disgrace,” interjected Shelby Ferguson, who was in the audience and owns Ferguson Funeral Home. “One time I saw a rat. There’s food out all the time. That’s a disgrace.”
