The number of confirmed cases of the coronavirus, also known as COVID-19, in Western Pennsylvania grew to five over the weekend, with one of those cases reported in the Mon Valley.
Clairton Mayor Rich Lattanzi relayed on social media this weekend that the Allegheny County Health Department and Allegheny Health Network confirmed that a city resident has been admitted to Jefferson Regional Hospital with the coronavirus.
“AHN and ACHD are working together around the clock and are taking appropriate quarantine measures to ensure the safety of medical personnel and they are following up with each and every individual that may have come in contact with this patient,” Lattanzi wrote. “We, your public officials will continue to update you on additional information and if more cases are discovered.”
According to the ACHD, both new cases are individuals in their 60s, with one hospitalized and the other in isolation at home. Like with the two previous cases, which have been reported to be members of the same household in the City of Pittsburgh, ACHD has begun a contact investigation.
