With numerous restrictions in place due to the coronavirus pandemic, the special election in the 58th Legislative District for the state House was held Tuesday.
With all precincts unofficially counted, it appears the seat will remain in Republican hands, at least through the end of the year.
Republican Eric Davanzo had 52.52%, Democrat Robert Prah had 40.54% and Libertarian Ken Bach had 6.95% according to the state website. Davanzo is the apparent winner and will serve through the end of the year, the rest of former Rep. Justin Walsh’s term. The three candidates were seeking the seat vacated when Walsh, a Republican, stepped down to become a Westmoreland County Common Pleas Court judge.
“The people spoke today and it went well for us,” Davanzo said. “We need to keep the foot on the gas. We can’t take anything for granted and get ready for November.”
