Pet owners get advice for handling furry friends

As talk about COVID-19 statistics and precautions have dominated news cycles and conversations in recent weeks, questions about whether cats and dogs can contract or spread the coronavirus have risen in the minds of animal lovers.
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, the state Department of Health, animal response and rescue teams and veterinary medical associations have been receiving questions from pet owners about whether they should be taking care of their furry loved ones if they are sick or have been exposed to coronavirus.
According to the World Health Organization and the CDC, COVID-19 is not zoonotic and cannot be contracted or transmitted by cats and dogs.
“There is no evidence of cats, dogs or other companion animals becoming infected with COVID-19,” the state Department of Agriculture announced Friday.
