Police are investigating after a Pittsburgh man was shot in Monessen Sunday night.
Monessen police Lt. Dave Yuhasz said officers were called to the area of Fourth Street and Knox Avenue around 8:10 p.m. Sunday after a neighbor called 911 to report hearing five or six shots fired.
While police were making their way to the scene, a second 911 caller reported the back window of a vehicle parked in the area had been shot out and that a silver vehicle was seen leaving the scene, heading toward the viaduct bridge.
Yuhasz said witnesses also reported seeing two individuals running south on Fourth Street after the shots were fired.
While police were canvassing the area with assistance from the Westmoreland County Detective Bureau’s forensics team, Westmoreland 911 reported that a 20-year-old male, later identified as Kenneth Jones, was being treated at Monongahela Valley Hospital in Carroll Township for a gunshot wound.
“The individual who was shot was dropped off at Mon Valley Hospital and basically did a tuck and roll,” Yuhasz said.
He said Jones was transported to UPMC Presbyterian Hospital for further treatment after being evaluated at MVH.
“No other reports of injuries were noted to police,” Yuhasz said.
Yuhasz said forensic investigators found nine bullet shells and four bullet fragments near Knox Avenue and Fourth Street. He said Monessen police will continue their investigation and on Monday reviewed surveillance camera footage from the area where shots were fired.
No charges were filed prior to presstime. Anyone with information about the shooting is asked to call Monessen police at 724-684-6151.
Yuhasz said Fourth Street and Knox Avenue were closed for around three hours Sunday night during the investigation and he thanked Monessen firefighters for directing traffic during the incident.
