Remember When?: Scoring for a change: BVA downs Southmoreland for its first victory

Lou Rood’s Belle Vernon Area softball team played the exact same kind of game as its previous two contests.
Well, maybe with one little exception … OK, make that a pretty big exception.
BVA hit the ball in both losses at Penn Trafford and at Bethel Park but the Leps never got that ever-important timely hit.
No timely hits in the first two games of the season meant that the highly regarded Leps started the season losing consecutive 1-0 contests.
That also meant going into yesterday’s Section 3-2A lidlifter with visiting Southmoreland that not a single BVA player had crossed the plate in its 14-plus innings so far this year.
That changed in a hurry for BVA yesterday as the Leps got that timely hit they were in dire need of which produced a four-run first inning and the never looked back in an 8-4 victory over Southmoreland.
“A win is a win is a win and I’m happy we finally scored,” said a relieved Rood after the game. “In our first two games, we got runners on base but just couldn’t get that timely hit.”
