A Charleroi Regional Police officer has been suspended from duty after being charged with several drug-related crimes.
William M. Gardner, 39, is charged with intent to possess a controlled substance, obstruction of administrative law or other government functions, misapplication of entrusted property, receiving stolen property and theft from a motor vehicle.
Gardner was charged Monday by the state police bureau of criminal investigations and is awaiting arraignment.
Charleroi Regional Police Solicitor Todd Pappasergi confirmed that Gardner has been suspended from duty pending an investigation.
Pappasergi said Gardner was suspended Monday after the department was notified he was under investigation by state police.
Gardner was placed on administrative leave and will remain suspended until the investigation is finalized.
“As this is a pending criminal and personnel matter, no further comment will be made at this time,” Pappasergi said.
