Remember When?: Will Reader end Monessen drought?

It’s been a long time, 15 years to be exact, since a Monessen High football player has been selected in the NFL Draft.
The drought could end this weekend.
Jamie Reader, a four-year starting fullback at the University of Akron, reportedly could go anywhere from the fifth to seventh round.
If that does happen, Reader will be the first Greyhound to get picked since Julius Dawkins, who starred at Pitt and was one of Dan Marino’s favorite receivers, was a 12th-round choice of the Buffalo Bills in 1983.
Monessen High football coach Jack Scarvel wouldn’t be surprised to see the 6-2, 230-pounder playing in the pros next season – drafted or not.
“I think he’ll make it,” offered Scarvel, who watched Reader run for over 1,300 yards and score 108 points his senior campaign at MHS.
“He has a lot going for him. He has a good resume with the pros but his biggest asset is his character. He’s just a good kid.”
