Edward John Ehko Sr. – Charleroi
Edward John Ehko Sr., 101, died Saturday, April 18, 2020, at The Residence at Hilltop. Born Jan. 17, 1919, in Charleroi, he was the eldest son of the late Andrew and Ada Saccani Ehko. He was a World War II veteran, having served for three years in the U.S. Navy on the aircraft carrier USS Ranger as a flight director, and was a member of VFW Post 1409. He was retired from Wheeling-Pittsburgh Steel, where he worked for 44 years in the tube mill. He was also a member of SOAR. As a member of St. John’s Lutheran Church in Charleroi, he happily served as a councilman for many years. He had a lifelong passion for fishing and hunting, was a member of the Charleroi Sportsmen’s Association and joined other sportsman’s clubs and privately owned lakes throughout his life. He enjoyed many sports, especially watching the Steelers, as well as boxing, baseball and tennis. Truly loving his family and friends, he was always trying to help them in any way he could and will be sadly missed. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Anastasia Ruschak; one sister, Janet McGowan; and one brother, Frederick Ehko. He is survived by his three children; Carole Mack and husband Bob, Edward Ehko Jr. and Gayle Hamilton and husband Mark; five grandchildren, Bradley Sigut and wife Karilynn, Amy Ervin and husband Grant, Duane Ehko, Andrew Hamilton and wife Elizabeth and Anthony Hamilton and wife Keri; 7 great-grandchildren, Brady, Morgan and Bryce Sigut, Marley and Isla Ervin and Elena and Auron Hamilton; one sister, Olive Pulaski; one brother, Robert Ehko; and numerous nieces and nephews. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, viewing and services will be private. Interment will be held at Mon Valley Memorial Park, Carroll Township. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you make a donation to your local food bank.
