Elizabeth borough officials are taking things one day at a time when it comes to making plans and issuing permits for summer events.
Larry Ross, president of the Elizabeth Area Development Corporation, asked council Tuesday to consider closing Plum Street from mid-June until early August for the summer concert series sponsored by the EADC.
“We’re going to have to follow CDC guidelines on this and not what any other municipality is doing,” said Krisha DiMascio, the borough solicitor.
“We will push it back as far back as we have to,” Ross said regarding the start of the outdoor concert season. “The bottom line is, all of us are in this together, this pandemic. We’re asking that down the road we work on the complete closure.”
Ross said the outdoor concert series is meant to showcase Elizabeth, bring customers to the downtown businesses and attract more businesses to the community.
Council was also to consider giving its endorsement to the organization’s application for a state liquor license for the outdoor events, but decided the endorsement of the liquor license couldn’t be given until it was determined if the events could be held.
“We’re just playing it all by ear until they give us permission to open up and have events,” said Council President Chad Rager.
“I don’t think events are going to happen in the near future,” DiMascio said.
