Virginia Elizabeth Figel, 91, passed away in her sleep of natural causes on Monday, April 6, 2020, at Meadowcrest Healthcare Center. Born in Scott Haven, Pa., on Nov. 27, 1928, she was the daughter of the late John and Katherine Furminsky Mamrak. Virginia was raised in the Sutersville and West Newton areas and graduated from Sewickley High School in 1946. Virginia married Nicholas Figel of Monessen on May 26, 1951, and resided in Monessen most of her life. During this time, she was an assistant to the pharmacist for 20 years at Thrift Drug Store in both Monessen and Belle Vernon. After living in Monessen, she and her husband moved to Cranberry Township in their later years. Virginia was very dedicated to raising her children, wanting to ensure that their education, health and welfare were secure. She was always involved with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren and passed on her good values to them. Virginia’s love and passion for animals made sure there was always a home for dogs, cats, birds, rabbits and other pets through the years. She is survived by her daughter, Nancy Figel (Speer) Ruey; a son, Jeffrey (Karen) Figel; and a daughter-in-law, Janice Figel; eight grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren; her brother, Raymond (Audrey) Mamrak; as well as numerous nieces and nephews and many friends. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Nicholas; son, Nicholas John; and seven siblings. Private visitation and funeral services were held in the JAMES C. STUMP FUNERAL HOME INC., 580 Circle Drive, Rostraver Township, 724-929-7934, www.jamesstumpfuneralhome.com, with interment following in West Newton Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions to the humane society of one’s choice. We will miss her dearly for the love, wonderful care and sacrifices she made for us. In consolation, our belief is that she is with loved ones that preceded her and peace is with her.
