Upon his graduation from Thomas Jefferson High School next spring, Preston Zandier will trade in his black and gold for red, black and white.
Zandier made his future plans evident Saturday morning when he announced his commitment to continue his academic and football careers at Youngstown State University.
His commitment came just over a month after the Penguins and first-year head coach Doug Phillips extended an offer to the junior linebacker/wide receiver.
“After talking to their coaches for a couple of months and then receiving an offer, I had a lot of time to think,” Zandier said. “Then, we did the unofficial FaceTime calls with all the other coaches and they all were great. I knew after that I would fit into the program perfectly.
“It’s wonderful knowing I’ll still have more time to play the game I love at a high level. I’m blessed to say I get to because many kids only get four years to play the game.”
