WASHINGTON TOWNSHIP – Two years ago, Belle Vernon Area’s girls softballers nipped McKeesport, 5-4, for the first postseason victory in the school’s history.
After blowing a 4-1 lead, the Leps came back to win with a run in the seventh inning.
Chancio is a senior now and Monday settled the score with the Leps on the same field.
Chancio, who’s headed to St. Vincent, upped her record to 12-1 and the team’s slate to 14-3 in the Tigers’ surprise 3-2 triumph over the highly touted five-time Sec. 3 champs.
McKeesport’s little righthander took a no-hitter into the fourth inning when Jennifer Pehote beat out an infield hit with one out.
Chancio had a three-hit shutout and 3-0 lead going into the seventh when the Leps came to life on losing hurler Lori Hnatko’s one-out infield hit and Allyson Dubinsky’s RBI triple to left field.
Nicole Canigiani’s infield hit drove in Dubinsky to trim McKeesport’s lead to one run and keep BVA’s hopes alive.
