U.S. Rep. Mike Doyle, Allegheny County’s longest-serving Congressman, was leading at presstime in the 18th Congressional District race for the Democratic nomination against newcomer Jerry Dickinson.
During a virtual press conference held via Zoom at 10 p.m. Tuesday, Doyle said he’s confident he’ll be named the winner of the primary contest.
But, 33-year-old Dickinson of Swissvale wasn’t ready to give a concession speech.
The Democratic nominee will run against Republican Luke Negron, a Delaware native who lives in Bethel Park and was unopposed in the primary, during the Nov. 3 general election.
There are 328,490 registered voters in the 18th District. At presstime, the Allegheny County Elections Division was reporting that Doyle had 59,341 votes and Dickinson had 23,900 votes with 10.46% of precincts were reporting.
Negron received 13,977 Republican votes as of presstime, according to Tuesday’s unofficial results.
There were 212 Democratic write-in votes and 320 Republican write-in votes.
