A local restaurant will turn its parking lot into a makeshift drive-in movie theater this evening.
The Tree House Restaurant, located in the Belle Vernon American Legion along Broad Avenue, will host a drive-in movie event for community members beginning around 6 p.m.
While summer doesn’t officially begin for another two weeks, Tree House co-owners Steve and Alexandra Broomhead thought “The Sandlot” would be the perfect film to show for an event open to individuals of all ages.
“We want people to blow off some steam and have a little fun,” said Steve, adding that a Pittsburgh-based production company was hired to set up the screen and sound system for the event.
“(The Sandlot) is a movie about summer and kids, so we thought it was the most light-hearted thing that we could do for the community.”
In addition to offering entertainment to its customers and even encouraging people to bring their baseball gloves to play catch in the parking lot while social distancing, the Tree House will have a special menu available with staff members on hand to deliver orders to customers in their cars.
The menu will include hot dogs, burgers, chicken and waffles, buffalo pierogies and more.
“We have a special baseball kind of menu for this event,” Steve said.
The cost of the event, which is reservation only, is $5 per car and there is a $25 minimum for food purchased.
