The storm that ripped through the region Wednesday night damaged at least seven houses in Elizabeth Township and left hundreds in the dark.
As of 9 p.m. Thursday, there were 412 customers in the township still without power. The majority of those were expected to be restored before midnight and the remainder are due to be back in service by 10 p.m. today, according to First Energy’s power outage website.
Kyle Walk, chairman of the township commissioners, said what appeared to be a microburst ripped through the township coming from the Blythedale end of the community, tearing down trees and power lines Wednesday evening before 7 p.m.
“Our road crew worked until midnight (Wednesday) night. The only thing left to clear are the downed trees that have power lines running through them,” Walk said. “There are no isolated residents.”
Walk said the crews cleared roads to make sure all residents had at least one way to get out of their homes in the event of an emergency. Walk said township officials were still assessing the damage, but as of Thursday night it appeared four homes were heavily damaged by falling trees and other storm issues, while three others had moderate damage.
