The grounds at Fallingwater will reopen today for the first time since its closure for the COVID-19 pandemic March 15.
The home designed by architect Frank Lloyd Wright in 1935 will remain closed for interior tours until protocols for navigating the house with appropriate physical distancing can be developed to assure the safety of the staff, volunteers and visitors.
Currently, Fallingwater is offering outdoor exterior self-guided and guided private tours for visitors to experience the exterior of Fallingwater and the surrounding landscape, with future plans for a gradual transition back to house tours. More information about the outdoor experiences is available on Fallingwater’s website, Fallingwater.org/experience-fallingwater.
“We are pleased to welcome staff and visitors back to the site and, while things will be a little different, we hope that just seeing this magnificent architecture and experiencing the landscape will still provide meaning and context during these difficult days,” said Justin Gunther, director of Fallingwater. “Every visit will also help protect the legacy of this remarkable place, which is now part of the World Heritage List.”
