Before the Belle Vernon Area School District tackles plans to reopen schools for 2020-21, it will be dealing with the issue of how to reopen school board meetings.
Board president Joe Grata proposed that the board meet in an open public session for July. Summer meetings in the district are usually held in the administration building meeting room, but it was noted that the room is too small to allow proper social distancing if they are open to the public.
Dr. Michele Dowell said she will need to see which district facilities aren’t being worked on this summer to determine the location of the next meeting.
Board members also discussed whether masks should be required for the public and board members at that meeting.
“The guidance is clear. We should suggest use of masks and social distancing,” said Ira Weiss, the board’s solicitor.
