Mitch’s Bail Bonds returned to Fayette County Baseball League play in Charleroi Sunday evening.
Even if it was for around an hour and 15 minutes.
The Magicians played into the bottom of the fourth inning and were trailing Mill Run, 8-0, before rain showers wiped out play at Vets Field in Charleroi.
Because of the premature ending to the season opener, the game will not be counted and will have to be restarted at a future date to be determined, Mitch’s coach Ryan Encapera said.
“It was more or less like a practice,” Encapera added. “It’s tough cause both teams had players there ready to play and get an appearance.
“It was not the way we drew it up, but in hindsight, we got to play a little bit and it was better than nothing.”
In what might have been considered a scrimmage since it will not be counted toward the team’s record, Mitch’s struggled to get its bats going collectively.
Mill Run pitcher Jimmy Malone carved through all 10 batters in Mitch’s lineup, tossing 3 1/3 innings of perfect baseball. He struck out six, including five of the first six batters he faced.
“He has just been unbelievable against us every time we’ve faced him,” Encapera said. “He just carves against us. He’s a competitor, he’s very crafty and he knows how to pitch. Hats off to him.”
