Dorothy Jackson was already at retirement age when she opened the Memory Tree and Yarn Branch in Monongahela and if it were up to her, she would continue running the business for the foreseeable future.
But it’s not solely up to her. She will be 89 years old in just a few weeks (July 25) and is in the high risk category for the coronavirus. The very business that has kept her young now presents a threat to her health.
“The kids think that I’m too old to run a business, but my doctor said it was healthy for me. If I had my way, I’d stay, but I have to listen,” Jackson said.
A Wilkinsburg native who now lives in Fallowfield Township, Jackson has been at her Monongahela site for 15 years and had a business in Charleroi before that.
“My daughter had a scrapbooking store in Charleroi and I kind of wanted to get into business. I liked yarn,” she said.
