The Westmoreland County Housing Authority has had an issue with overflowing garbage bins for about six weeks and contends it has encountered difficulty getting help from the city.
Authority Executive Director Michael Washowich said the bins at Valley Manor on Third Street in Monessen have experienced an overload almost weekly for nearly two months and it became a health and safety issue.
Valley Manor’s typical pickup day is Thursday, but Washowich hoped to secure an extra day of collection on Mondays or Tuesdays.
“I reached out to the city multiple times for extra pickups,” Washowich said.
He said he spoke to Monessen city Administrator John Harhai several times and reached out to the Mon Valley Refuse Disposal Authority, which handles the garbage contract Monessen has with Waste Management.
