Jean Careatti – Goodyear, Ariz., formerly of Fallowfield Township
Jean Careatti, 94, of Goodyear, Ariz., formerly of Fallowfield Township, passed away on July 22, 2020. She was born Nov. 21, 1925, to the late Thomas and Ellanor Boedecker Warren. She was married to John Careatti on Oct. 18, 1947, by the Rev. John Thomas at Mother of Sorrows Church, Charleroi. The couple built a house in Fallowfield Township where they resided for 62 years until John’s death on Jan. 22, 2014. The couple reared two children, John Alan and Jeffrey Jude Careatti. The deceased was baptized and confirmed at Grace Lutheran Church in Monongahela. After her marriage and moving to Charleroi, she was an active member of Christ Lutheran Church until her death. She served several terms on council, and as a lector, usher and coordinator for Thrivent Financial for Lutherans. She was instrumental in obtaining the Washington County Historical plaque for the church. Following graduation from Monongahela High School, Jean was employed for six years as a reporter for the Monongahela Daily Republican. After her children entered school, she returned to the newspaper, then the Daily Herald, and served six more years as society editor and later as a teletype setter in the composing room. Her employment continued for 16 years in the McKeesport Daily News composing room. Jean’s main interest in life was her family. When her sons were young, she was active in Boy Scout Troop 1040, in PTA work, serving as president of the Fallowfield PTA, first president of the Mon Valley Council and district director. She was an active member of Fallowfield Civic Associations, working on the school merger and obtaining city water in the township. Socially, she was past president of the Charleroi Area Women’s Club and Athena Club, and a member of the Italian-American Heritage Society. An active member of the Mid Mon Valley Literacy Council, Jean was a tutor, public relations chairman and later treasurer and vice president. She is survived by her sons and their spouses, John and Anne of Tappahannock, Va. and Jeffrey and Linda of Goodyear, Ariz.; four grandsons, Joshua of Richmond, Va., John K. (Amanda), Justin J., of Neptune City, N.J., Jeffrey L., of Spring Lake Heights, N.J.; two granddaughters, Jessica (Randy) Flaum of Spring Lake Heights, N.J., and Shana (Eugene) Sanderson, of Berlin, N.J.; three stepgrandsons, Richard Emerson of Enola, Brian (Tesia) Emerson of Newport, Scott (Michelle) Emerson of Johnstown; 13 great-grandchildren, Brayden Careatti, Aubrey Careatti; Alexander, Addison and Camille Flaum; Blake, Fiona, and Morgan Sanderson; Ivan Careatti, Jordan, Ty, Dawson Emerson, and Cameron Emerson; three brothers, William (Beth) Warren of Pennsboro, John (Norma Jean) Warren of Tulsa, Okla., David (Lori) Warren of Marlboro, Mass.; one sister, LaRetta Shultz (Ken) Wilt of Confluence; plus many close nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by a grandson, Jesse Micah Lee Careatti; a brother, Thomas Richard Warren Jr.; and four sisters, Leola (Samuel) Ditta, Patricia Strang-Bruun, Betty (Clyde) Evans and Maxine Zukauckas.
