It has been quite a year in “Leps Nation,” and they are not quite done.
Garrett Greco hit a walkoff single that scored Martin Marion in the bottom of the seventh inning Monday to propel the BVA Leps Nation baseball team to a 3-2 win over Highlands.
The Leps advance to the semifinals in the Western Pennsylvania Baseball League and will face Ingomar (North Allegheny) at Boyce Mayview in Upper St. Clair at 5 p.m. today.
“It was a cliffhanger the whole way,” BVA manager Tony Watson said. “We were able to get a couple timely hits for a change and our pitching was stellar, I cannot say enough about that tonight.”
Starter Andrew Sokol kept the Rams bats silent most of the night. Sokol went 6 1/3 innings, allowing two runs on four hits. He struck out five and walked five. More than once, Sokol had to work himself out of jams.
“Then he comes back with a four-pitch inning and that makes my decision a lot easier to leave him in,” said Watson. “He battled.
“That is a greatly coached team. They are at the top of their section every year. It says a lot about our guys and their attitudes coming into this game.”
