Band camp at South Allegheny has been shut down for 14 days after a student tested positive for COVID-19.
The district said the student, who has not been publicly identified, recently spent time in the presence of another student who tested positive for the virus.
In a letter to district families posted on SA’s website, Superintendent Dr. Lisa Duval and high school Principal David McDonald said SA was made aware last Wednesday that a student tested positive for the virus.
The student did not report to any school activities after the onset of symptoms of the virus on July 25, the letter states.
“Protocols are in place to identify who the student could have been in close contact with 48 (hours) prior to symptoms starting,” Duval and McDonald wrote in the letter, adding that “close contact is defined as 15-plus minutes within 6 feet with or without a mask.”
“After the school was made aware of this positive test, two students who were identified as being with the student outside of school activities were immediately removed from band camp and tested,” the letter states.
