This year might be remembered by most people for coronavirus, school closings, business shutdowns and empty sports stadiums. But Angela Beck will remember 2020 for a different reason.
A 2011 Ringgold High School graduate currently living in New Orleans, Beck was recently named to the 30 under 30 list compiled by the Pittsburgh Business Times in collaboration with Leadership Pittsburgh Inc.
The honor recognizes leaders in Pittsburgh’s business and nonprofit communities who are younger than 30. Winners were selected for their efforts to grow a business or nonprofit and for their contributions to the community and civic organizations.
The deadline for the nominations was March 27, when Beck was finishing her Master of Science in Information Systems and Management degree at Carnegie Mellon University. She has a Bachelor of Science in Bioengineering from the University of Pittsburgh.
One of Beck’s CMU professors nominated her for the honor.
“It definitely came as a surprise,” said Beck, a Monongahela native. “I didn’t realize I would be qualified. I was very humbled to be even submitted.”
The winners were announced earlier this summer and will be spotlighted in a Pittsburgh Business Times special feature Sept. 25.
“I couldn’t believe I won,” Beck, 27, said. “It’s a surreal experience. I thank so many people. Without them, all of the work and accomplishments I achieved wouldn’t be possible.”
