James S. Cherocci Jr. – Belle Vernon


James S. Cherocci Jr., 89, of Belle Vernon, passed away Sunday, Aug. 9, 2020, at his home. Born July 18, 1931, in Monessen, he was the son of the late James and Kathryn Marra Cherocci. A resident of Belle Vernon for more than 40 years, Mr. Cherocci was a member of St. Sebastian Roman Catholic Church, Belle Vernon. Mr. Cherocci was the former owner of JC Cherocci Tavern, Belle Vernon, was a member of Belle Vernon American Legion Post 659 and was an avid football fan. He is survived by his wife, Carolyn Samoda Cherocci, to whom he was married for 34 years; daughter and son-in-law, Kimberly and Doug Everard of North Carolina; son and daughter-in-law, James and Jenny Cherocci of Michigan; daughter Shelley Samoda and fiancé Denny Long of Belle Vernon; sister and brother-in-law, Dolores and Joseph “Chip” DeFelicis; and 11 grandchildren, Courtney Samoda, Falyn Samoda, Hannah Samoda, Christina Barcus, Zachary Cherocci, Justin Cherocci, Lucas Cherocci, Nicole Ioannou, Alexandra Ioannou, Emily Everard and David Everard. He was preceded in death by his daughter, Shawndell Adair Samoda Muro; and an infant brother, David. Visitation will be held from 2 to 4 and 6 to 7:30 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 13, at Parzynski Funeral Home & Cremations LLC, family owned and operated, 626 Broad Ave., Belle Vernon, 724-929-6183. Funeral services will be held at 7:30 p.m. Thursday at Parzynski Funeral Home & Cremations LLC, with the Rev. Michael J. Crookston of St. Sebastian Roman Catholic Church officiating. Keeping in compliance with the county and state mandates, guests are asked to please abide by personal protective guidelines, masks MUST be worn, social distancing must still be maintained and to please minimize your visit to allow other family and friends to pay their respects to the family since we are still limited to 25 guests in the funeral home at a given time. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions be made in memory of James Cherocci to the funeral home.
