The Washington County Commissioners voted to hire Zelenkofske Axelrod LLC to oversee the COVID-19 Relief Block Grant program in a special meeting held Friday.
The certified public accounting firm will administer the $18,681,742 the county will receive through the Coronavirus Aid, Relief and Economic Security Act.
“We’re going to have a grant program for nonprofits and businesses. The firm will track all of the requests and grants,” said Diana Irey Vaughan, chair of the commissioners. “There are so many regulatory requirements that we want to make sure we do everything properly.”
Irey Vaughan said the county’s finance department, which is already in the midst of the budgeting process, doesn’t have the staffing needed to keep track of the CARES Act grants as well.
The contract with Zelenkofske Axelrod is not to exceed $35,000.
