As he watched his team take part in its scrimmage against Class 5A Woodland Hills Friday, McKeesport head coach Matt Miller had one word come to mind: Rusty.
“The first 10 plays on offense and 10 plays on defense we were knocking the rust off,” Miller said. “From about that point on, though, I thought we looked pretty good. We got our fullback going, we got the quarterback reads going and we started looking better.”
Miller fully expected his group to start a bit slow considering the little amount of practice time they’ve had.
With that being said, he had more positive takeaways from the game than those of the negative fashion.
“We saw improvement from the first snap to the end. That is a good sign,” Miller said. “We showed some signs of discipline, which was really good. We put the ball on the ground too many times, but that, once again, is to be expected the first time going live and getting hit.”
