MVI broadcasts continue to grow
By the Mon Valley Independent
The Mon Valley Independent’s broadcasting abilities got another boost Thursday with the absorption of the fledgling Mon Valley Sports Network into the MVI’s umbrella.
MVSN founder Dean Dellamalva, a freelance sports writer for the MVI, will begin broadcasting tonight with the Avella at Monessen football game at Memorial Stadium. He’ll also have the story in Saturday’s edition of the MVI.
“I am elated to be joining the team at The Mon Valley Independent,” Dellamalva said. “(Sports editor) Jeremy Sellew and Jose Negron do a tremendous job covering our local sports teams and I am looking forward to adding to their excellence.
“The professionalism, reputation and coverage the newspaper provides to the community in the Mon Valley is second to none.”
The idea of a partnership was first brought up pre-pandemic. Now with minimal fans being permitted to attend games, it’s the perfect opportunity to expand into broadcasting for the MVI.
“Adding Dean not only as a writer, but a broadcaster, allows us to provide another opportunity to give broadcast coverage for schools in our coverage area,” Sellew said. “I’m sure with our game of the week broadcasts, there will be some kinks we need to work out, but I’m confident in our abilities during the venture.”
