Thomas Jefferson got off to a fast start in its Section 3-3A opener Monday night and never looked back.
The Jaguars had several early scoring chances, took advantage of their first in the seventh minute and cruised from there for a 7-2 victory over Greensburg Salem at Jaguar Stadium.
Six different TJ players scored goals but the offensive performance overshadowed strong play from the Jaguars’ midfield and defense.
“There’s not a real superstar on this team, we have a lot of good players who are learning to play with one another,” Thomas Jefferson coach Doc Kulish said. “Our passing is improving every day but we got laxed at the end of the game as I wanted to play the whole bench.”
The Golden Lions (0-1, 0-1) went nearly 17 minutes without a shot.
Just before the halfway point of the first half is when Greensburg Salem notched its first goal on a shot by senior forward Tanner Dobrosky from 35 yards out. The shot handcuffed Thomas Jefferson junior keeper Alex Day.
“We made a couple mistakes and they were able to capitalize,” Kulish said.
Those mistakes didn’t occur until the game was well in control by the Jaguars.
TJ (1-0, 1-0) threatened a few times in the early minutes and cashed in as junior Jordan Chiprich sent a ball in from the corner and Michael Ngugi put it home for a 1-0 lead.
