Belle Vernon Area’s girls soccer team had their 26-game section winning streak snapped Tuesday.
On Thursday, they successfully started a new streak and showed their offensive potency against an overwhelmed Albert Gallatin.
Four players finished with hat tricks for the Leopards (1-1, 1-1) as they dominated every facet of the game for a 12-0 Section 2-3A win over the Colonials.
“We really used the loss as motivation. We put it behind us yesterday and today was us starting over,” BVA head coach Tracey Lovett said. “I told them we needed to come out, start over and make a statement these next couple of games.”
The statement was loud and clear against the Colonials.
Izzy Laurita, Jillian Butchki, Morgan Einodshofer and Farrah Reader each finished with three goals.
“I think we were really out of sync on Tuesday and I think we were just a little out of sync tonight,” Lovett said. “But we didn’t have a scrimmage and those four working together is something that’s going to continue to come along as the season goes on. They’re a talented group. Not only do we have four goal scorers, we have four playmakers that can really make everyone better.”
The Leopards got on the board with Laurita getting her first goal of the season with a shot from 18 yards out. The assist went to Einodshofer.
Seventeen minutes later, Einodshofer netted her first to start a spurt of three goals in six minutes for Belle Vernon.
Butchki finished off the half with a pair of goals just over two minutes apart to give the Leopards a 4-0 lead at the half. She assisted on Einodshofer’s goal and Reader assisted on both of her tallies.
“Farrah was a little snake-bitten in the first half. She had a ton of shots, though, but I swear she shot like six or seven right into the keeper,” Lovett said. “And you have to give their keeper (Abby Barnes) a lot of credit because she made some fantastic saves in that first half. Especially when we had back-to-back corners down there. She made the right play on the ball each time.”
