Standing at the bottom of the steps of the U.S. Supreme Court in Washington, D.C., on Wednesday, 2-year-old Frankie Frezzell blew a kiss to the late Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg.
Thousands of admirers gathered outside the courthouse Wednesday and Thursday to pay their respect to the justice. Ginsburg, 87, died Sept. 18 due to complications from cancer.
Christina DiPiazza of Charleroi was at a loss when she heard the news.
“When I heard that she had passed away, it just blew me out of the water,” DiPiazza said.
Almost immediately, DiPiazza knew she and her daughter Frankie would need to pay their respects.
Frankie, who turned 2 last month, may not understand who Ginsburg was, but someday she’ll know that she was involved in American history.
“RBG has been very influential to me,” DiPiazza said. “She defied societal expectations and highlighted her intelligence while always maintaining her humanity.
“There has always been something magnetic about her that just endeared her to me, as many others would likely agree. She encouraged me as a woman and fought for barriers that needed to be broken for me, and now my daughter, to pursue our dreams.”
