Charleroi junior Eben McIntyre scored a hat trick and classmate Denver Radomile added a goal as Charleroi downed visiting McGuffey, 4-1, in Section 3-2A action Wednesday at Myron Pottios Stadium.
McIntyre’s three tallies, which helped Charleroi (9-0, 7-0) maintain its lead atop the section standings, came in the game’s first 20 minutes.
“Eben can find the back of the net, there’s no doubt about that,” Charleroi head coach Jon Ducoli said. “Then Eben looked to dish off. That is the kind of player he is; he looks for his teammates and it only makes this squad stronger.”
Freshman goalkeeper Nate Mazon made his first varsity start in goal and was solid for Charleroi. He made 10 stops in net and allowed the single McGuffey (2-6, 2-5) goal.
“Nate had clear lines, he was definitely in command of that back line for the first time being a starter,” Ducoli said. “There are some things we will be taking away from this game that we will need to polish up.”
Mazon was supported by the play of his defense which hustled back to cut off Highlander runs and to step in front of a few hard shots by McGuffey forwards.
