Water project noise called unavoidable
Fallowfield Township residents who live along Old Route 71 will have to bear with noise from after-hours construction — at least for a few more weeks.
The project, which began in late July, is a private-public partnership between the Authority of the Borough of Charleroi and EQT.
It will place approximately 2,200 feet of 24-inch water main line and 13,500 feet of 16-inch water main line from the intersection of First Street and McKean Avenue in Charleroi through Maple Creek Road and Old State Route 71.
The joint project will upgrade the Authority’s water distribution with the addition of a new main line at no cost to customers.
“This project also benefits customers of the Authority by allowing EQT to operate more efficiently and safely through the use of this waterline, rather than relying on other methods to transport water, which may have a greater potential to cause noise and traffic disturbances,” ABC Solicitor Todd Pappasergi said. “Ultimately, the Authority will receive ownership of the new main line for use in the Authority’s water distribution system.”
Construction also includes a new water feed line to the Charleroi reservoir.
“The Authority and EQT are pleased that this type of public-private partnership could be arranged for the benefit of the parties involved and the customers of the Authority,” Pappasergi said.
