Despite the coronavirus pandemic, the Mon Valley Veterans Council Veterans Day Parade is expected to take place next month.
The parade, hosted this year by the Monongahela Veterans Council, is scheduled for 11 a.m. Nov. 7 at Chess Park and will travel toward the Sheetz store on West Main Street.
The event will include Advance the Colors by Mon Valley Leathernecks, an invocation by Rev. Bill Bailey, “God Bless America” sung by Kim Van Voorhis, remarks by Monongahela Mayor Greg Garry, the two-bell ceremony by the Mon Valley Shipmates, benediction by Rev. Kevin Dominik and “Taps” and a rifle salute by the Mon Valley Honor Guard.
The keynote speaker will be Charleroi native and U.S. Army Maj. David Zuzak.
According to David Thompson, chairman of the Monongahela Veterans Council, the parade will feature 60 to 70 military units from Washington County and surrounding areas.
“Usually when we have it the streets are pretty full,” said Thompson, a New Eagle resident and U.S. Marine Corps veteran. “(The public) is fantastic. A lot of veterans live here in the Valley and they come out anytime the veterans come out.”
