Mon Valley Sewage Authority customers with delinquent active accounts will soon receive notice that a lien process has begun on their property.
Solicitor Aaron Bialon notified the authority’s board of directors at Monday’s meeting that the first step has been taken for delinquent bills dated from 2014 to 2019.
Under the authority’s lien policy, which was approved this past summer, the first group of letters will be sent by certified mail. These letters contain the amount due and fee schedules.
A second letter will state that payments are due within 15 days and warn that failure to resolve the amount due will result in a lien being placed on the individual’s property.
“If that lapses without a response, then we file the lien in either Westmoreland or Washington county court,” Bialon said.
He said there are approximately 50 to 60 accounts that are considered delinquent.
“I still have a pile to go,” he said. “We’re trying our best to discern, some of these go back to 2014.”
