Three unanswered goals by Thomas Jefferson in the first half was enough to keep Belle Vernon Area from winning the Section 3-3A title outright as the Jaguars pulled out a 3-1 win at James Weir Stadium Wednesday.
It was Belle Vernon’s first loss on The Beach at James Weir Stadium since a first-round playoff loss to Kiski in 2018.
With the win, the Leopards (12-2, 10-2) could end up sharing the section crown with Trinity.
“We like playing here and take pride in defending our turf. It’s disappointing to say the least. I’m usually not one to question it, but I’m really disappointed with our effort tonight,” BVA head coach Rob Miele said. “I thought, considering everything that was at stake tonight, I thought our effort wasn’t where it needed to be. Credit to TJ because they came in here and they wanted it more and they executed and never allowed us to get any momentum, especially in the second half.”
Jaguars head coach Doc Kulish was ecstatic with the way his team played and was happy his team converted on the chances they had, different from when the teams first met Sept. 24th, a BVA overtime win.
“We converted our chances, but there were still a lot we didn’t,” Kulish said. “Our defense played extremely well tonight. Jordan Chiprich played so good in the midfield and Jack Sella was just phenomenal. He busts his butt and that’s what won us the game tonight.”
