Charleroi Area students who recently returned to class may notice something different when they enter their school buildings.
A years-long project will finish today at the entrances and high-traffic areas of the elementary center, middle school and high school as vibrant and spirited vinyl wraps have been installed at the buildings.
Superintendent Dr. Ed Zelich said the project, which cost about $9,000, was paid for through a Safe Schools Grant from the Pennsylvania Commission on Crime and Delinquency.
The window coverings serve two purposes, Zelich explained.
“They are really, really impressive,” he said. “The project started a few years ago for a few reasons — one for school safety and two, for school spirit.”
Waynesburg-based marketing/production business Direct Results wrapped the entrances of each school, bus garage and administration building with bright red, black and white sayings and catch phrases to let students, staff and visitors know they are in Cougar Country.
The vinyl wraps allow those inside to see who is at the door or outside the building, but those entering can’t see who or what is inside.
“This is another way to protect our students from possible intruders, but also to give them a sense of school pride and school spirit, which is really important during these tough times,” Zelich said.
