The Monongahela Area Library received a pleasant surprise this week.
WQED announced Tuesday it is welcoming the library to Inquire Within, a four-year-old program that enables librarians to create events using content from PBS.
The library is now one of 37 throughout Pennsylvania, West Virginia and Ohio included in the program, and it will host a kick-off party to celebrate at 6 p.m. Oct. 29.
The party will feature a Curious George Halloween Grab-a-Bag, costumes and bags filled with PBS items.
Library interim director Becky Dudzik said being included in the program was a surprise.
“I was shocked,” she said. “It’s fantastic that we’ve been lucky to be picked for so many children’s programs.”
Dudzik said the library was actually nominated by the EQT Foundation, the philanthropic division of natural gas producer EQT Corporation.
George Hazimanolis, WQED’s senior director of corporate communications, said the partnership with the EQT Foundation allows WQED to reach more communities.
“It’s a pretty organic process and it fits together,” Hazimanolis said. “We’ve got a lot partnerships with school systems and a lot of relationships with communities. This allows us to go into community libraries, some of which are underserved at times.”
