A McKeesport Area School District staff member has tested positive for COVID-19.

The district announced shortly after 1:30 p.m. Tuesday that the individual, who has not been identified, tested positive for the virus.

“That individual will remain isolated at home for at least two weeks until their symptoms have passed and they are able to return,” the district said in a prepared statement.

The district said families will be directly notified by the Allegheny County Health Department if the individual who tested positive has been in close contact with them or their child/children.

“Please continue to follow all mandated social distancing and personal safety practices, including wearing appropriate face coverings, maintaining at least 6 feet of distance from others, proper hand-washing for at least 20 seconds each time, and regularly cleaning and disinfecting frequently-used or shared spaces, items and surfaces,” the district stated.

Asked if the individual who tested positive was a teacher and when the last time the staff member was present in a school building or at a school event, district spokeswoman Kristen James said “Unfortunately, we cannot release any additional details about the person.”

She confirmed that MASD didn’t have any plans as of Tuesday afternoon to close any of its school buildings.
